Western Red Cedar is typically reddish to pinkish brown, often with streaks and bands of darker red/brown areas.
With a straight grain and a medium to course texture, this is a reliable, sturdy wood for a variety of applications. True to cedar varieties, it has a reddish or even pinkish tone, as well as its trademark cedar aroma. Rated as durable to very durable in decay resistance, it is important to note that it is not resistant to insect attack and should be treated accordingly.

Workability
Easy to work with both hand and machine tools, though it dents and scratches very easily due to its softness. Glues and finishes well, though as is the case with most softwoods with closed pores, even staining can be a challenge.
